HER JOURNEY
There is something mesmerizing about ordinary, everyday tasks. In many ways they mimic the more traumatic transformations in our lives.
Young becomes old.
Memories are made and fade.
Trauma is born, festers and dies.
As I watch my mother transition I cling to the things that connect us. Beautiful textiles and handmade clothing. Gardens and flowers. Times spent together, frozen and captured in photographs.
The anger that consumes me is the one that resists change. The one that doesn’t want to let go.
The one that knows resistance is futile.
The one that knows change is inevitable.
So I hide in my cocoon. Until I can transition. Until I can release.
RECENT PROJECTS
eResidency – Helen’s Dress
An exploration into the human condition. Can we be saved? Are we lost forever?
The work recognizes previous work I did in the environment. Coming back to the current environment, our modern society and the issues we are facing, this is the result of an intensive, exploratory eResidency with Loukia Richards and Christoph Ziegler.
It was featured in SMCK Magazine, published by ZLR Betriebsemperium.
NEW PROJECTS
As my focus shifts back to the themes that seem to follow me everywhere, I am going back into nature and back into the landscape.
Working with environmental themes reflect my true being. It is who I am.
Watch this space for details of new projects and expressions.
At the same time, jewellery continues to fascinate me. The body as a vehicle, as landscape and as intricate part of the whole.
Previous work can be seen in the Landscapes below.
