“Metamorphoses, transfigurations, and mutations as mind-opening revelations can be found in many religions, art, and literary traditions. The changes in form and substance, documented by innumerable myths and doctrines, have a common denominator: the ascent of the human being into a higher spiritual sphere.”

Throughout the creative process, the curators encouraged artists to work with what lies near to them. The struggle to find the right topic solved itself through the ever increasing presence of my mother’s illness, her need for care and the terrifying thought that I was losing her. What developed is a series of brooches, all recalling elements of our shared lives, fragile memories now threatening to fade into nothing. My choices of materials, patterns and objects were specific, exact. It was, though, in the making of the video, that so much of what was happening was finally consolidated into something tangible, a story I could tell.
